“Story Telling” with Street Photography
Telling stories with street photography can be an incredibly powerful way to capture the essence of a place or a moment in time. By spotting candid moments of people going about their daily lives, photographers can create a visual narrative that speaks to the human condition in a way that words often cannot. Street photography can also help to document and preserve the unique cultural and social characteristics of a particular community or location.
Our Street Photography workshops will help you with developing your observation skills relating to people, their gestures, moments in time and the environmental contexts that such images may require to complete or enhance the story.

Using objects in the scene to point the eye to the subject is a device worth looking out for
Using environmental objects as frames or separators can often make the image and help to segment the parts of your story and create layers
Sometimes it's what you leave out of the image that tells the story
After a straight pose, the lad in the middle pushed his friend over, this was the moment the story was written
Martin Parr has spent years documenting British leisure and our culture, if you look around it is everywhere
Our life stories include our family and our pets, clothing and our possessions, add good composition and find interesting colour palettes and everyday life becomes a story and a pictorial photograph
All photographic techniques can be employed to highlight the components of the scene that you want to emphasise, slow shutter speeds enhance the effect of a busy city
The story is not always just the subject of the image. Location, context and situational attributes contribute a huge amount to a one image story
